Fabulous Beasts; A Celebration of Real and Imaginary Animals In Contemporary Art and Design 6 – 27 July 2024
A lighthearted and joyous exhibition, perfect for summer!
Fabulous Beasts will feature the work of Christine Pike (who conceived the idea), and that of fellow GAS members; Claire Gordon and Louise and Simon Taggart.
There will be a mix of sculpture (Christine); lino prints (Claire); ceramics (Louise), and turned wood (Simon).
Christine’s lively and colourful paperclay cats and other animals will be sharing the space with Claire’s Elizabethan-insired hares, Celtic ravens, Scandinavian bird designs, and sea creatures. Husband and wife team, Louise and Simon Taggart, will be showing a range of ceramics and turned wood designs, including Simon’s quirky wooden penguins!
“The Custom House is such a great space for exhibitions and right on the tourist trail – so we wanted to offer something fun and engaging for summer visitors”, explains Christine. “All the work will be for sale, at prices to suit every budget. And we will have an exhibition shop as well, for small, souvenir-type pieces and impulse buys.”
The Greyfriars Art Spaces art collective has been in residence at the Custom House since July 2022 and received more than 13,500 visitors to its full programme of exhibitions to date. Run and managed by its members GAS is a not for profit organisation of professional artists and makers.
Fabulous Beasts will be open Monday to Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm and at least one of the artists will be on hand each day to talk about the work.
